New Year…New Travels!

Do your New Year’s resolutions include more travel? More adventures? More experiences? My family and I were visiting my parents in Florida at this time last year. It has become an annual visit for us. We get out of the harsh Minnesota winter and into the Florida sun. While I am extremely grateful to have a place to getaway, I also struggle because it is not my travel style. Over the years my yearning for adventure and new experiences has only grown stronger with each travel experience. A typical trip for us includes at least two different accommodation/location changes and LOTS of exploration and learning. When we come to Florida it is very challenging for me to lay low. At the same time, it was this time last year, doing just that that I really formulated the concept for Wild Bum! Had we been on one of our crazy adventures I might have been too “busy” to really set the foundation for the Wild Bum vision and global community!

So, as much as I crave a different travel experience – one that is filled with culture and expansive opportunities for myself, my husband and our kids – I also recognize the need to relax, spend quality time with family and change my mindset, if even for these two weeks we are fortunate to spend in sunny Florida, to one that appreciates a different type of travel experience.

It’s a time to reflect on what the New Year will bring. And, for us, time to discuss what type of travel experiences we do want for 2019. In 2018, after our Florida visit, we spent time in Guatemala, Belize, with family in Dallas, Alaska, New Orleans, San Francisco and London! For this New Year we will be in El Salvador (Mollie is guiding a group of 26+ women for a week of dance, surf + renovating a rural school), back to Belize for some volunteer work with our kids, a BIG trip to Israel and Kenya. And, hopefully a few other shorter trips mixed in. And, we are big believers in travel not being a luxury rather as an essential part of our family’s health and wellbeing.

Where will you be headed in the New Year? What new experiences are part of your 2019 resolutions? What type of travels give you that feeling of expanding, learning and growth?
