October’s Place of the Month is Mexico!

Time to say hola to our new place of the month…MEXICO! *Cue the mariachi band* 

At the first thought of Mexico many people think of sitting on a beach at an all-inclusive resort. While there’s no shame in that, we at Wild Bum want to tell you more about all the things you didn’t know you could do in Mexico! This country has so much more to offer than a fancy hotel near the ocean. 

Mexico is a place that is bursting with a rich history and culture. There are loads of different landscapes and an endless amount of things to do and see. They have mouthwatering cuisine, a mind-blowing number of museums, a beautiful language, famous artists, mariachi bands, and so much more!

So, to kick the month of Mexico off the right way, we want to share a few fun facts about this amazing country that maybe you didn’t know before. Trust us, Mexico is full of surprises. We can’t wait to share more of these best kept secrets with you over the next month.

 

The capital of Mexico is Mexico City 

It happens to be the oldest city in all of North America. It is also the most populous city in all of North America, and 7th in the world.

 

Mexico is home to the largest pyramid in the world

The Great Pyramid of Cholula stands 180 feet and is actually one of the largest monuments ever constructed.

 

Street food is a staple in Mexico

While many think it might not be safe to eat street food, that simply isn’t true. The best way to get authentic Mexican cuisine is to try something from a local vendor. You can thank us later! Mexico is to thank for many cuisines that we all enjoy around the world today such as corn, chilies, tomatoes, and even chocolate!

 

Mexico has volcanoes!

There are more than 42 active volcanoes in Mexico and 1000s of inactive ones!

 

It’s a big country with lots of beaches

It is the 13th largest country in the world, and it has more coastline than land borders! Much of Mexico is also covered by mountains.

 

Speaking of borders… 

The border between Mexico and the United States is the most active border and frequently crossed borders in the world.

 

Like Museums?

The capital city is home to the most museums in the Americas and the 2nd most in the world.
