How to Spend a Perfect Weekend in Manhattan
What’s more exciting than a weekend in NYC? For many, planning a weekend in the Big Apple is a tad overwhelming. So much to do, so little time! The first thing to determine is what are your priorities? Are you an architectural nerd? Foodie? History buff? Shopaholic? Art geek? Follow your fancy in the city that never sleeps. Here are just a few suggestions on how to spend your weekend in Manhattan…
Midtown Manhattan + Times Square
Whether it’s full-on Broadway, improv, a concert at Radio City Music Hall, or The Opera – Midtown is home to some of the best talent in the world. If performance isn’t your thing, how about art? MOMA (The Museum of Modern Art) never fails to amaze even the toughest of art critics. For chocolate lovers like me, make a quick Times Square stop at Hershey’s Chocolate World (for free chocolatey smells and samples). Whatever your passion is, find a store to fit your desires here in Midtown. If you tire of the hustle and bustle, R&R at the New York Marriott Marquis for a quiet bite, drink, and some of the best views of Broadway.
Chelsea
My top two favorite things to do in all of Manhattan are exploring both The Highline and Chelsea Market. I’m also a big fan of Artichoke Basille’s Pizza, but New York pizza is super controversial and there are a lot of options so you might want to do your own research on this. If you’re not done with Chelsea yet, grab a coffee at Blue Bottle and spend an afternoon at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
Greenwich Village
A great way to explore “The Village,” and really any Manhattan neighborhood, is with a good old fashioned walking tour. Explore Washington Square Park and the surrounding shops and restaurants. For charcuterie fans, check out Murray’s Cheese for specialty meat and cheese. Some local favorites in Greenwich are The Spotted Pig, Cafe Wha, the Comedy Cellar, Greenwich Village Comedy Club, and the Friends Apartment.
Central Park & the Upper East Side
Last but certainly not least, no weekend in NYC is complete without a trip to Central Park and the Upper East Side. Although one could spend an entire weekend in Central Park alone! Ice skate at Wollman Rink, grab a bite at Tavern On the Green, or explore the American Museum of Natural History and the Rose Center for Earth and Space. If you’re feeling bougie, ride around in a horse-drawn carriage. Or better yet, strut 5th avenue and sit on the Met steps like Blair Waldorf. There’s something for everyone in the green heart of the Big Apple.
