A Getaway to Prescott, Arizona
- by Kelly Miller
I have a growing list of Arizona cities that I want to visit. I was able to check off one of those cities during our recent travels. On our way home from our northern Arizona adventures, we stopped and stayed in Prescott, Arizona.
Prescott, Arizona is full of history, charm and stunning scenery. It’s a great spot to visit whether it’s for a night, weekend or extended stay.
Where to Stay
Depending on your preference of where you would like to stay, Prescott has hotels, home rentals and campgrounds. During our visit we stayed in a RV campground. The Point of Rocks RV Campground was a great fit for us. They offered contactless check-in and check-out, the customer service was great and we enjoyed the scenery. This campground has full hookups and is located in walking distance of Watson Lake. I love a good location, so I would highly recommend this spot. If you plan on camping in a tent, Point of Rocks only has space for RVs, click here for other campground options.
Where to Eat
We ate most of our meals at our campsite, but we did venture out to Colt Grill, BBQ & Spirits. It’s well worth visiting! The food was delicious and definitely was a top meal during our entire trip. A few recommendations from the menu are the Brisket sandwich and the Smoked 1/2 Chicken. The sides were also tasty!
What to Do
- Take time to kayak on Watson Lake. This is a beautiful lake in Prescott. This was our favorite activity during our stay. You can rent kayaks by the hour through Prescott Outdoors. I was extremely impressed with the cleaning and new procedures that have in place because of the pandemic. If you plan on renting a kayak, canoe or paddle board, you’ll need to book in advance through their website. Keep in mind that swimming is restriced at Watson Lake.
- Take a walk around historic downtown Prescott
- Play a round of golf at Antelope Hills
- Learn about history while visiting the Sharlot Hall Museum
- Enjoy the great weather and go for a hike
If you haven’t made it to Prescott, Arizona, I highly recommend planning a getaway. Prior to visiting, I would check out the visitor center website to get the most current information in regards to the pandemic.
