About the location
Maybe you know Belgium for its waffles, beer and sometimes dreary weather, but I bet you weren’t aware of Brussels’ plentiful green spaces or that this city has one of the oldest shopping arcades in Europe. Brussels is known for its comic strip murals and chocolate, but there is so much to see "off the beaten path" and on easy day trips just outside the city.
I live in Brussels and want to help you get acquainted with the country of Belgium and all that the city of Brussels has to offer. Whether it's the food and beer, interesting architecture or quaint medieval towns you seek, this guide will help you make the most of your visit!

Guide Summary
It's important to have background on a place before visiting so I've included information on Belgium's history and communities, plus highlights on the arts, cuisine and sports of Belgium.
You'll feel well-equipped to navigate the "de facto capital of the European Union" with these helpful tips on the language(s), dining out, and getting around.
I've organized this guide by most popular sites, museums, what to do on a beautiful day and local experiences. I've also shared hidden gems in and out of the city center, plus seasonal highlights for all times of the year so you won't miss out on anything.
Belgium is a rather small and centrally located country in Europe. Brussels is centrally located in Belgium. This means you can easily visit cities in the north like Ghent, Bruges and Antwerp. Head south to see the site of a significant WWII battle or enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Ardennes forest and Gaume region.
I recommend the best areas for visitors in the city center and the surrounding neighborhoods. There’s multiple pages with ideas for places to find Belgian classics and sample waffles, frites and chocolate.
