About the location

My family of five went to Costa Rica for 8 days in March. It was an incredible trip in a beautiful country that I cannot wait to go back to explore more. My kids were ages 17, 14 and 11 and they were able to participate in all of our adventures.

Guide Summary

We flew into San Jose and our first night we stayed nearby (30 minutes away) on an organic coffee farm. We loved seeing the typography of this area and learning about coffee. From here we drove about 2.5 hours up to La Fortuna which is the town that sits next to the Arenal volcano. The drive was very beautiful and quite windy roads. We had heard that the driving could be questionable. We found the roads to be paved and in great condition. We loved having our own car so we could stop when we felt like it. From here we drove 5 hours to Dominical. This is a long, beautiful drive and you can make a few stops along the way. We stopped at Crocodile bridge to see all the crocs below and then we stopped in Jaco for lunch. Jaco is like the Cancun of Costa Rica. I would not recommend staying here but it was a fine place to stop for a quick lunch. Our last stop was at the Maxi Pali outside of Quepos. This was a grocery store where we picked up some food for our rental home in Dominical. While we stayed in Dominical we were able to visit Uvita, Bahia Ballena, Quepos and Manuel Antonio. It was a great area to stay in to explore all of these areas. We were so sad to leave when the trip came to an end and we cannot wait to go back!
