Why you should go glamping?
Let’s preface with an important factor about a glamping experience. It’s just that – an experience! And, sometimes that means it’s not cheap! You are paying for the experience. We spent a pretty penny glamping at Under Canvas in Moab Utah (they have several locations) and we decided to splurge for the nicest tent. With that extra nightly rate you get a tent that is farther away from its neighbors, so more privacy. We also had a toilet and “shower” in the tent. And, our kids slept in their own teepee tent right next to ours!
The tent is quite luxurious – a super comfortable king size bed. And, a couch. It’s very visually pleasing! Everything about it is cute. And, it’s set up on a platform/deck so you aren’t directly on the ground. Our tent had “windows” and misters to keep you cool in the the hot desert heat! Plus, the view!! That view was everything.
Our kids teepee tent was very minimal, but they had these adorable cots to sleep on. Only one of our three children actually slept in the teepee. Very typical for us. Our other two are a little bit more skittish and there was these crazy storms every night in Utah (we were there in August). Luckily our tent was spacious enough that we would carry their cots over and they had plenty of space to shack up with us.
Even cooler – there was one main hub with a place to fill up water bottles and a bonfire was roaring nightly with board games and couches to relax on. We also played horseshoe, ladder golf and other “yard” games. There were plenty of BBQ grills and picnic tables to use.
If you want the glamping experience, but do not want to splurge – they had super clean trailers with showers and toilets. Totally fine! And, for a few nights, nothing compares to that view. Most glamping spots are located in picturesque locales. In Moab, you are set in a valley that is just stunning. There are glamping destinations all over the world where nature is the main feature. You can easily get a camping site and bring your own tent. But, for a few nights – having that canvas tent set up for you with all of those great amenities – really creates a different experience than a typical camp site. Our kids LOVED it! But, I can see it being an amazing romantic getaway as well!
The food and activities were pricey. So, we opted to eat our meals off the property or pick up at the grocery store and grill. We also arranged our activities on our own.
Currently our Utah Road Trip Wild Bum Guide has a glamping rec as well as our Texas Hill Country Guide! We LOVE discovering glamping sites – please reach out if you’d like to brainstorm together!
