November’s Guide Architect of the Month: Brittney Stubbings
- by Wild Bum
Hello, November! We truly can’t believe we are already into the 2nd to last month of the year. Where has the time gone?! We are getting excited for the holidays and the magic that a new year can bring. But, before we get there we are even more excited to introduce our GA of the Month: Brittney Stubbings.
Brittney is an adventurous soul who is not only a travel planning whiz, but she is also inspiring and encouraging others to travel, too! From her blog and YouTube channel to her epic travel guides. With 6 (yes, SIX) guides on Wild Bum’s site, she is truly a valued and important part of this community. We can’t wait for you to get to know her!
Check out her Guide Architect profile for all the goods.
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I’m a San Diego native (at the current moment 😉 with midwestern roots. I grew up as a military brat moving every couple of years, and have continued doing so in my own adult life! I’m the oldest of three sisters. Wife of my favorite guy. Dog mom of Rip.
I manage the local field marketing team of a kombucha brand that also grants me a pretty flexible time-off policy! I use my hybrid-remote working days to my advantage by exploring and working from as many places in San Diego as I can, and I try to take a handful of extended trips throughout the year.
You’ll often find me smiling in the sunshine, hiking new trails, sailing the San Diego bays, hosting impromptu (or very prompt) gatherings, chasing sweet photo spots or murals, with a craft beverage in hand.
What type of traveler are you and what would you say is your travel style?
My staples include Airbnb. Local Food. Outdoor Activities. Happy Hour (Breweries). Photo Ops.
I like to step into a new place as if I just moved there – keep it as local as I can with a few sprinkles of adventure thrown in. I make loose itineraries – have a handful of different options within each of the staples that I can choose from in the ways that work best with how my days are flowing.
Where have you been? Where has been your favorite place?
This is honestly an impossible question. Each place has that thing that nowhere else does that makes it so special. So far, I’ve visited 30 states and 6 countries (7 including the U.S.) My top 5, in no particular order:
- Montana – this place is a beaut, + super underrated! The mountain towns here, wildlife, epically blue waters, and the number of outdoor activities could make anyone fall in love with it.
- PNW – specifically the Oregon coastline. We discovered a few spots here on a whim and ended up getting married there. Something about those sharp cliffs, forest greenery, and little beach towns.
- Alaska – It’s like another world here. We did the loop + Homer Spit. So quiet, so peaceful, yet so so much to see and do in the outdoors.
- Kauai – mainly because I just got back from there, and the colors, landscape, and island vibes are unmatched.
- Thailand – this was my first trip overseas. I loved the budget-friendliness of it, Chiang Mai and Krabi, the culture, the food.
Why did you decide to become a Guide Architect for Wild Bum?
Planning trips is genuinely one of my favorite parts of the actual trip. I love doing the research, building excitement around a place I’ve never been, the satisfaction of finding a hidden gem + feeling like a local, and knowing that I’ll be sharing it with people I love to experience things with the most. When I found Wild Bum it was like all my traveling stars aligned! I could house my travels in one place, and have them act as virtual tour guides for others.
What guides have you created? Do you have any upcoming guides we can look forward to?
Right now, you’ll find the following guides ready to go! They are:
- South Dakota Road Trip
- Tampa Bay
- Saint Petersburg, FL
- Bangkok Adventures
- Exploring Chiang Mai
- Kansas City
There are a few I’m working on, too – An Alaskan Road Trip, Camping in Kauai, 2 Weeks in Croatia, and San Diego Locals Guide!
What is one thing you can’t travel without?
My GoPro! The easiest, most versatile, and portable camera there ever was. My favorite trick is to record a million little short clips throughout my travels and then pull candids/individual frames from them to create my photos! I’m so awkward in posed photos, so this helps a ton!
What is something you enjoy about being part of the Wild Bum community?
The inspiration to travel comes alive through the photos and words within the Wild Bum community. It’s really cool to see how differently everyone likes to travel – you could go to the same place and have a handful of extremely different experiences! Low-key, adventure saturated, food-focused, entertainment-focused, super boujee, or super minimalistic. There’s a place for it all. Wild Bum is like meeting that perfect stranger while you’re traveling someplace new. You connect instantly, swap stories, and explore more of this place with all these new suggestions from your distant friend!
We are all about inspiring people to get out there and travel, use time-off to explore, and find their wild.
Tell us, when do you feel the most “wild”?
I feel my most wild when I am experiencing something for the first time. If I could bottle up that feeling, wowee I’d be a very happy gal! There’s nothing quite like seeing someplace with a fresh set of eyes. Noticing all the little (and big) details of the ground beneath you, the sky above you, and cityscape or landscape surrounding you.
